ALTOONA, Pa. – Ed Boyle, member of the Penn State Altoona Rail Transportation Engineering Program Advisory Board, was named the first “Engineer of the Year” by Railways Track and Structures magazine.

Boyle is currently Vice President of Engineering for Norfolk Southern Railway, where he has spent over 25 years demonstrating technical expertise, skilled project management and world-class leadership.

“Ed is a forward thinking person who sincerely wants to inspire the next generation of railway engineers. This is demonstrated by her dedication to our rail transportation engineering program, ”said Chancellor and Dean of Penn State Altoona, Lori J. Bechtel-Wherry. “Not only is Ed passionate about improving the workforce and recruiting new talent into the industry, he is committed to bringing cutting-edge solutions to the industry through scientific research. Ed is data-driven and works effectively with our faculty and those at other universities to improve overall track and structural maintenance for Norfolk Southern and the industry as a whole. “

Boyle, originally from Pittsburgh, graduated from the Penn State University campus in 1993 with an engineering degree.
