Ministry of Land Transport to reopen and issue licenses

After suspending services on April 16 due to the third wave of the Covid-19 epidemic, the Ministry of Land Transport announced their reopening next week. The agency will resume driving license renewals by issuing new licenses, as well as giving driving tests.

Services are expected to resume nationwide at all DLT offices on June 21, according to the DLT chief executive. While services will be relaunched and offered as normal, all Covid-19 restrictions and control measures will be put in place for public safety. Officials and customers will be required to follow these mandatory safety measures, such as mask wearing and social distancing.

After the Covid-19 epidemics began to spread rapidly across the country in early April, the decision was made to suspend all DLT services on April 16. With the sudden closure, the department expects a large backlog of people who had already made an appointment. which were canceled out of necessity.

The general manager promised that those who had appointments scheduled between April 16 and June 18 for services such as driving tests or license renewals would be granted priority appointment status and would be served in first. In addition, the Ministry of Land Transport has a website and has launched a new DLT Smart Queue application. Customers will be able to make an appointment on either.

The ministry expects the backlog of appointments during the two-month shutdown can be cleared by the end of July, so it is authorizing new appointments by August 1 or later.

Recognizing the potential for problems and legal issues caused by the two-month shutdown, the department is coordinating with the Royal Thai Police to grant leniency to drivers whose licenses have expired given that they were unable to get them. renew.
